Charles Swindoll wrote in his book Growing Strong in the Seasons of Life, “I know of no other single practice in the Christian life more rewarding, practically speaking, than memorizing Scripture. . . . No other single exercise pays greater spiritual dividends! Your prayer life will be strengthened. Your witnessing will be sharper and much more effective. Your attitudes and outlook will begin to change. Your mind will become alert and observant. Your confidence and assurance will be enhanced. Your faith will be solidified.”
Clearly, memorizing scripture is a spiritual discipline very important & crucial towards our spiritual growth. I’m not the best at memorizing scripture…in fact, I could probably count on my hands verses I have really & truly memorized. Sad…but true! But our minds are marvelous little things and I have no excuse when it comes to memorizing God’s Word because my brain has the capacity to hold it all. I know because I can still serenade you all the words to “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” like that song just came out! So today I thought I’d just do a simple little crafty post in hopes that together we can begin to take the steps towards memorizing God’s Word and imprinting them on our hearts.
All you need is some pretty scrapbook paper, glue, business card template like Avery 5871, and if you want to go above and beyond, a laminator w/ laminating pouches.
So, what you do is simply print out your scripture cards, cut your scrapbook paper down to size, glue them together, and laminate if you want.
Now take these cards & put them where you will see them as often as possible. I put my cards in my bathroom and by my blender in the kitchen. When I wake up in the morning to get dressed or make my daily green smoothie, I take the time to recite each and every one out loud or in my head. Keep doing this & eventually you’ll realize that you’re reading your cards without even reading them because you have them memorized.
Let’s allow God’s Word to take root in our hearts & sprout beautiful blessings on our tongues!
