Oh hello there, Monday!
Mondays have such a bad rap. Bless its heart! Coming right after a nice, relaxing weekend then getting thrown back into the daily grind can be hard. We often tend to look at Mondays as an unfortunate event that somehow keeps occurring every single week. Often we hear the sounds “Ugh”, “Arg”, & “Ek” associated with the day. I know I’m guilty of it! I confess that sometimes I do find myself going through all the stages of grief when it comes to Mondays coming around. I’ll wake up Monday morning with the thought, “Really?! Again?!” We have no idea where Monday will take us, but for some reason, we automatically dread its coming.
Monday! Bless. Its. Heart!
How do you respond when someone gives you a gift?
“Ugh! No thank you. That’s not exactly what I wanted. It’s awful. You can take that back!”
Yeah, no. Even if it’s the most random, unusable gift, you’re going to thank the person that gave it to you & do your best to show your appreciation for thinking of you. It’s the thought that counts, right?! You might toss the gift to the side once they’re gone, hide it away for only when they come to visit, but even if the gift is not what you wanted or you can’t really use it, you’re going to show some ounce of gratitude.
The other day I was sharing my heart with one of my sweet sisters in Christ & she was sharing with me what God has been speaking into her heart lately. She was having one of those instances where God was repeating a lesson through various outlets to be sure she caught on. Don’t you just love it when God does that! The main truth that she was getting from each place was that every single day is a gift from God; how will you receive it?
I’ve heard this countless times before in my life, but that day I really needed the reminder. Each and every day that we wake up is a gift from God. Tomorrow is never promised & today is all we have. When I think of my days this way, I cringe at the thought of how I’ve been receiving each gift from God. I admit I haven’t been as grateful as I could be. What about you? I mean, I don’t go around dreading every single day but I also don’t start off my days with deep & sincere gratitude for the true blessing that God has given me.
Life is like a vapor. Here one day & gone tomorrow. (James 4:14) Each day God allows us to wake up, He’s giving us this beautiful gift with a smile on His face. Can you picture it? But then we wake up, see the gift, and respond with an “Ugh! Here we go!” or “I just want to go back to bed & skip today.” In some sense, I believe it breaks God’s heart when His children don’t receive His gifts well.
It breaks my heart thinking about how many times I’ve woken up unappreciative of the day that God has given me. I’m so convicted to shift my paradigm & see each and every Monday and all the days following as a gift from God. Yeah, every day isn’t going to be awesome, but we must be intentional about showing our appreciation for the day we have. Taking every opportunity to rejoice in what we have now. It’s so easy to get caught up in the past or in the future, but we’ve got to remind ourselves of what’s right in front of us. And that’s today! It’s all we’ve got right now & we need to take it all one day at a time.
Today is a beautiful gift from God. Enjoy it! Thank Him for it. Even on the suckiest days, He can still make it into something beautiful if you let Him. You see, the thing about God’s gifts is that they are always usable even if you can’t see it right now.
This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice & be glad in it!
